FSCO issues warnings for auto and life insurance scams in Ontario

  Admin

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario issued three insurance scam warnings on Sept. 19.

FSCO has warned that Trans Direct Insurance Co. is not licensed to do insurance business in Ontario.

It also warned that two individuals, Jermaine Nathaniel Jones and Abdoul-Karim Traore are not licensed to do insurance business in Ontario. They claimed to sell auto insurance on behalf of TD Home and Auto Insurance company, and advertised in various ways to consumers. TD has confirmed it is not affiliated with the individuals.

FSCO has also warned against fake job offers from “Standard Sunlife Insurance” and “Dominion Life Insurance,” which have offered pick-up and delivery work and have asked for cheques from consumers. Despite naming similar to legitimate, licensed companies, the two are non-existent companies and aren’t licensed to do business in Ontario.

That scam appears to be linked to several other non-existent companies that FSCO has recently published warnings about on its website.
